Teach Your Kids The Golden Rules of Safety
Jan 19, 2025When it comes to your child’s safety, no one is better placed to guide them than you. As parents and teachers, it's our role to help children build safe habits, set healthy boundaries, and develop the confidence to move through the world — all while still being able to enjoy their childhood.
And it starts with simple, clear rules and honest conversations.
One of the first rules we teach in the Path Keepers Program is:
What is a stranger?
A stranger is anyone your child hasn’t been given permission to talk to — even if they’ve seen them before. That could include neighbours, distant relatives, or family friends. Unfortunately, harm doesn’t always come from someone unfamiliar, which is why it’s vital that children understand: a stranger isn’t just someone they don’t recognise — it’s someone their parents haven’t identified as safe.
Another vital rule: never go anywhere with anyone without checking with a parent first.
This simple rule can prevent so much — but it needs to be talked about clearly, and often. It’s not about scaring children, it’s about empowering them.
That’s where our Golden Rules of Safety come in.
Each module in the Path Keepers Program introduces a new Golden Rule — short, memorable safety lessons that children can understand, remember, and apply. These little pieces of knowledge can make a huge difference in how a child responds to the world around them.
Because true confidence isn’t just about knowing how to defend yourself — it’s about awareness, prevention, and finding your voice when it matters most.
If you want to help your child grow up safer, stronger, and more confident — while having fun along the way — then the Path Keepers Program is a great place to start.
