My Story
My father passed away when I was just 3 years old, fortunately I had my Mother and many older brothers and sisters to help me as I was growing up.
I had a real dislike for sports as a young boy, however, one of my brothers recognised this, took me under his wing and made many fun with any sport you could think of right at home.
We played Football in the house with tennis balls, Rugby in the living room using a cushion for a ball, cricket in the back garden with a plank of wood as a bat, a tennis ball wrapped in tape and a dustbin for wickets. The dog was one of the fielders and allowed to go find the ball if it was hit over the back fence, otherwise he had to down-stay under the conker tree. We 'played' Boxing in the living room too, holding cushions for gloves. We improvised using whatever was available to make it work, it was great.
I remember my brother taking me to the Market in town to buy our first pair of boxing gloves, we used them that much, the straw stuffing started to come out. The more we played, the better I became and the more fun we had. It was great! It has given me a love for sports and many fantastic and long lasting memories to treasure, I always looked up to my brother as a hero. I became involved in all the sports we had practiced at home and stayed involved for many years.
I became involved in Martial Arts when I was 17, the boxing had provided a great foundation to build on, I have trained in Martial Arts ever since. When my daughters were old enough to train, I helped in a kids program and later developed my own.
It was this idea of practicing at home and having fun that has encouraged me to create the Path Keepers Program. I want to give you that same experience, an opportunity to bond with your children and become their hero, whilst teaching some essential skills along the way.
For any parent who thinks they are not up to teaching this, let me tell you, all these skills are gross motor skills which are simple body movements that virtually all people are capable of performing (that's an important ingredient in self defence techniques too) This means you can learn the physical skills very quickly and through repetition, help build great confidence. All the safety information and personal values are easy to learn and understand. If you do have any problems, I'm here to help you.
These skills are so important to kids and will have a positive impact for many years to come - This is why we created an online program. Our Ultimate Aim is to Help You, Help Your kids be safer, fitter, better behaved and more confident.
The skills your kids Will learn here may be all you ever want them to learn, for others it can be a stepping stone before taking on the full commitment of attending a Martial Arts class.
The Path Keepers Program combines Basic Martial Arts Techniques with Safety Awareness, Personal Values and Fun Fitness Games. It's a great program, kids enjoy it and have tremendous benefits. We teach our own classes but there is only a small number of people we can reach alone so we are looking for well-suited people to help spread the word.
The Program is Very Well Balanced, with plenty of fun to keep kids interested in coming back for more and still giving parents plenty of value by helping teach some essential life skills, coupled with key safety information and all-important personal values. Who better to teach these skills than you - Parents, Teachers and Instructors.
The Safety Awareness Skills - We cover "The Golden Rules of Safety" to help teach kids how to react in certain situations such as being approached by an adult stranger or finding themselves lost in a store....and who better to teach these skills than YOU.
Personal Values - These are rules we live our lives by. Everyone may have a slightly different set of rules but we encourage 7 very specific Values of our own. By teaching kids what these values are, how and where they apply in a very simple manner has a long-lasting positive effect.
Fun Fitness Games - We help kids to exercise without realising they are exercising by simply playing fun, active games.
We Have Several Programs Available to suit a variety of needs, from parents who are concerned about keeping their kids safe and active, teachers, instructors or potential Instructors looking for a good program to implement.
